English Major Literature & Word
Studying words, imaginative literature, and the process of writing takes on great importance when you consider the high value God has placed upon words. In fact, John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word.” The major in English invites students to reflect on words and how they work. Students consider a variety of expressions of the human imagination as these are understood in the contexts of history, ethnicity, culture, gender, and interdisciplinary study. Grounded in Christ, the study of the English language and literature affords opportunities to understand others, oneself, and God’s world at the same time. Students majoring in English with Regent University, either online or on campus will develop a strong foundation in literature and composition while gaining some expertise in a related field, called a cognate. Students hone their skills in reading, writing, interpretation, and critical analysis - key abilities for fields such as law, communication, journalism, divinity, and the arts. Furthermore, students are prepared to do graduate work in English, Law, Divinity (etc.) if they so choose.
