BAchelor's Degrees in Health Administration

Bachelors Degree – Health Care Administration
A Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration will prepare you for careers as a health services administrator, nursing home director, hospital administrator, or a clinical services representative.  In fact, a Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration will prepare you for many different leadership positions in the health service industry.

Health care administration is the leadership involved in maximizing any health services delivery system.  Health care administrators must understand finances, organizational psychology, human resources, and market share in order to effectively manage a health services organization.  Health care administrators must also understand managed care, health care law and regulations, ethics, and strategic planning.  Health care administrators are also responsible for recommendations concerning health care resource allocation and policy making.  Health care administrators can also specialize in gerontology, health care education, and informatics.

Earning A Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to manage a health care organization.  This includes the particular operational needs of health care facilities and how to manage a human resources department specifically for a health care service.  You will also learn the business side of management including finance, accounting, and the successful marketing of a health care facility.  Instructors are usually industry professionals who are qualified to teach contemporary health care theory and it application to real-world situations.  You will also learn problem-solving, active participation, and teamwork.  The Bachelors Degree in Health Care Administration is designed to incorporate a foundation of general education and applied sciences with the knowledge that prepares you for a management position in health care.

In a health care administration program you take classes that purely focus on health care management.  This is a two year program, with an associate’s degree required to start.   An associate’s degree that is acceptable would be a general two year degree that included introductory level classes in biology, chemistry, psychology, speech, college level writing, and algebra.  A two year degree in clinical services like nursing or medical assistant may also be acceptable, depending upon whether or not the undergraduate credits needed to earn an associate’s degree are satisfied.

Upon completion of your associate’s degree, you will take classes in Organizational Behavior, Statistical Applications, Health Care Delivery Systems, Health Care Communication Strategies, Introduction to Health and Disease, Health Care Management Strategies, Human Resources Principles and Practices in Health Care, Ethics: Health Care and Social Responsibility,  Legal Issues in Health Care: Regulation and Compliance, Leadership and Performance Development, Health Care Quality Management and Outcome Analysis, Public and Community Health, Health Care Financial Accounting, Facility Planning , Health Care Consumer - Trends and Marketing, Health Care Information Systems , and Economics: The Financing of Health Care.  You will also be required to complete a capstone project in order to graduate.
